Project: Motions of Sun and Moon

Tier: 2

Location: ahcl

Other information, requirements, or equipment you must supply (may be blank): Starry Night or other planetarium software required

Identify the ecliptic, equinoxes, solstices, and nodes. Describe where these things are using stars and constellations (in other words, describe how to find these in the night time sky). Note the changes in the speed the Sun travels along the ecliptic during the year.

Observe and describe the analemma (hint, most planetarium programs come with demos of this). Using the information from the above step, explain the features of the analemma.

Observe and describe libration and the changes in angular size of the full moon during the year. Be sure to include specific dates with your descriptions.
